Kokon To Zai model KTZ9/2 is a special take on worker’s or battle game goggles. They are made of mold injected plastic and were produced in three colors: the opaque black you see here and a laquered glossy white and black. The opaque version is the sturdiest as no paint chipping can occur. These shades were produced in China for Linda Farrow.
KTZ is famous for creating special and experimental shades. Most of the more interesting designs end up being used only for their runways/ catwalks and do not go into retail but sometimes, as is the case with the model you see here, their sunglasses actually get retail distribution.
The goggles we see here have a unique mechanism where the entire bridge bends and folds together to press the two lenses together. These shades are split in two halves and thus adjust easily to each wearer’s face shape which a very pleasent addition. The four lenses are all reflective and hide the wearer’s eyes very discretely.
The decision to add a KTZ logo band as hold for these shades is not particularly aesthetical but was probably necessary to keep both comfort and production costs low. The band makes the overall appeal seem ski-ish rather than futuristic. In fact, these goggles seem to be a hybrid between futuristic sunglasses, ski eyewear and workers goggles.
KTZ and Linda Farrow did not print any logos or identification numbers on the sunglasses directly. The only official information is included on the little white card attached to the goggles via string and the logos on the black band.
